TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT

The following sections highlight my ability to design and deliver effective, technology-integrated instruction aligned with the Alabama Course of Study as well as ISTE Standards for Educators and Students. My teaching approach emphasizes student engagement, collaboration, and real-world application of historical concepts. Through structured lesson planning and the integration of digital tools, I provide students with meaningful opportunities to demonstrate their understanding.

INSTRUCTIONAL EXAMPLE

SURVIVING TOTAL WAR DURING WW1

OBJECTIVE

Students will explain how civilians supported the war effort during World War I by using key vocabulary and applying it to real-life scenarios.

LEARNING TARGET

I can explain how civilians supported the war effort during World War I using key vocabulary and real-life examples.

INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY

Hook:

Imagine your daily life changing overnight because your country is at war—food is limited, news is controlled, and family members are gone. Ask students: “How would your life change?”

Direct Instruction:

Introduce vocabulary with clear, simple explanations:

Rationing – limiting resources people can use

Propaganda – messages designed to influence thinking

Total War – the entire country is involved in the war effort

Unrestricted Submarine Warfare – attacking ships without warning

Armistice – an agreement to stop fighting

Modeling:

Provide a quick example: “A family might use rationing by reducing meals, while propaganda posters influence how they feel about the war.”

Guided Practice:

Ask students to choose one term and explain how it would affect their daily life. Allow brief partner discussion.

Transition to Activity:

Explain that students will now apply all terms by creating a visual and scenario showing a

family surviving during World War I.
